Coronavirus Outbreak Management
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak we have been instructed to reduce our face-to-face consultations.
Our main priority is to prevent elderly or vulnerable patients mixing with the unwell in our waiting room.
We apologise for the inconvenience.
For these reasons the appointment and consultation system will change in the following ways:
- All requests for consultations will be assessed by phone call initially.
- Many consultations will be conducted by phone call and some by videocall.
- Manage My Health self appointments can be made for telephone appointments only.
- All prescriptions will be sent by fax or email directly to the pharmacy of your choice, we will not allow pick-ups at St Luke’s Health Centre.
Important Notice: End of Life Care
New Zealand will be considering the “End of Life Choice Act” in a referendum at the time of the upcoming election in October 2020. If the majority of New Zealanders vote for it, this Act will become law. Unfortunately, this would place the doctors and nurses of New Zealand in a difficult position because euthanasia is unethical and if legalized this will place many of our patients in an extremely vulnerable position.
If this occurs we wish to ensure that all of our patients are aware that the doctors and nurses at St Luke’s Health Centre will not provide euthanasia, nor refer patients for this as we feel this is inconsistent with good medical practice. We will continue to make every effort to provide excellent health care, including palliative care.
Some of Our Services:
There are usually four GPs working at St Luke’s Health Centre, and as a teaching practice we often also have Registrars and House Surgeons working alongside us. Our qualified Practice Nurses can also provide a variety of services to our patients that don’t require a GP, and patients can always bring a friend or family member or request a chaperone for any of their appointments and consultations if desired.
Including wound care and dressings, blood tests, removal of stitches/sutures, Dry Ice/Freezing treatments, Ear Syringing and more.
Nurse consultations are also available for Cervical Smears and Pregnancy Tests.
St Luke’s Health Centre is also the home clinic for two other important health services in the region:
Hapai Taumaha Hapūtanga/Crisis Pregnancy Support
